Tsankawi Ruins

May 20, 2013

We went on a really cool hike in New Mexico yesterday! We saw the ruins of cave dwellings that are over a 1000 years old.

The hike involved a few ladder sections, which Jamie did while carrying Isaac in the backpack!!

When we hiked across this Mesa we saw obsidian scrapers and pieces of broken painted pottery right off the edge of the trail! That was one of the really cool things about this trail, it hasn’t been preserved by archaeologists yet so you could see all the cool stuff just laying in the dirt next to the path!

The caves were the highlight. You could crawl right in and imagine what it would have been like to live there!

Hiking along the edge of the Mesa, we walked on ancient pathways that were worn into deep grooves in the soft rock.
