New Farmette has been acquired!

July 8, 2011

Finally! We bought a house in Longmont!!  It’s been in the works for awhile now, but everything is taken care of other than signing the papers at closing on July 29th.  Yay!

Remember how we were thinking about two potential house scenarios?  One was a house in historic old town – walking distance to parks, coffee shops, restaurants, library, elementary school, etc.  The other scenario was a few acres just outside of town where we could have chickens, goats, etc.

We ended up going with the in-town house.  The good news is it has a nice big lot where we can grow gardens and keep chickens.  Maybe even bees some day.  But no goats.  I think I can handle that Smile

Our house is a brick 3-bedroom built in 1895.  Jamie is relieved to not have to work in a basement anymore.  I am excited to fix up the yard and gardens, buy real furniture, and finally – 3 years after returning from our bike trip – feel settled!  Oh and I want to paint the brick from maroon to light yellow.  Who wants to come help?

I don’t have many good pictures yet, but you can check out what I got with my iPhone when we walked through the house on my picasa site, here.

Now I can officially change the name from Seattle Farmette to something else.  4th Ave Farmette, Longmont Farmette, Welle Farmette?  I think I’m allowed to keep the word farmette since we’re going to get chickens next spring!  Right now we’re liking the idea of getting a couple colors of these cuties:

I wonder how Jamie’s next chicken coop building project will go?  Will it weigh 2 tons and be made of three different layers of 2x4s? Or will he change up his style this time around?
