Dream Farmette

November 27, 2010

The search for a Colorado Farmette is still progressing slowly but surely.  For the past six months we’ve been looking at properties as they come on the market but haven’t seen anything we really love yet.  As of today, we have a hot contender.

CO Dream Home 042

This is a 2 acre property southwest of Longmont (which means it is between Longmont and Boulder and is closer to the mountains than we are now; both are very good things).

The house is located on a hill with southern & western exposure.  That means it has amazing views of the mountains, as well as a sunny 360 view all around it!  It is so pretty!

It has a huge detached garage (whatever) and two little outbuildings that we could incorporate into our farmette.

Jamie thinks it might be fun to have his office in this one.

But as you can see, it will need a LOT of fixing up…

The house is old; the records list it as being built in 1910.  It’s actually really large for such an old house, and by peeking in the windows it looks to be in decent (liveable, but not beautiful) condition.

We’d need to do a lot to fix it up, but the overall package is very enticing.  This is pretty much my dream property – a house on a hill, facing south and west, and unbeatable mountain views.

Oh, and it is 5 miles from Longmont and 10 miles from Boulder.  Where else can you live in the country but be so close to 2 nice cities?

This is the view from the northwest corner of the property.

This is due west.  There’s an organic farm of some sort of the west of the property.

These are the neighbors to the north.

Here’s a view of the house, with the garage off to the right, from the northwest corner of the property.

The outbuildings, and a view to the south.  The goats will live in that circular building, probably.

Jamie’s future office?

CO Dream Home 034

Our very own cactus.  In Seattle you would probably get your very own patch of moss, but in Colorado you get cacti!

Standing across the street from our new home, that’s our car parked in front of the house.  This is facing west, so you can see the mountains in the background.

Ok, now I know what I want for Christmas.

  1. This house
  2. A nice Global Chef Knife
  3. A sign to hang out front that says “Welle Farm, incorporated 2011”

So, who wants to come visit first?!?!

What a view! Will you have to shovel a path to the ‘office’ in winter?? Or have a rope between the house and office so in a blizzard, you won’t lose your way? (o.k., so I’ve watched too many Little House on the Prairie re-runs.)
